James was contracted to do repairs to St.Anne’s Church, Soho which went wrong and James was made bankrupt on November 22nd 1831 [www.british-history.ac.uk] and on December 21st 1832 there was a two day sale at Campo Cottage to sell all the building stock on the first day and all the household goods on the second. Charles Thomas was apprenticed to George Stokes, builder, architect and surveyor, of 4 North Place, Grays Inn Lane. The draft indenture is in the West Sussex PRO. Undated.
